Apple Pie Ridge Earns Virginia Board of Education’s Continuous Improvement Award

Apple Pie Ridge Elementary School has earned the Virginia Board of Education’s Continuous Improvement Award. The award recognizes schools which are Accredited or Accredited with Conditions and meet at least one of the designated benchmarks for improved performance on accreditation-related school quality indicators.

New Principals Named for Bass-Hoover Elementary School and Stonewall Elementary School

Bass-Hoover and Stonewall elementary schools will have new principals in 2019-20. Stonewall Elementary School Principal Darren Thomas has been named the new principal at Bass-Hoover. Indian Hollow Elementary School Assistant Principal Mark Weisbrod has been named the new principal at Stonewall Elementary School. Both will assume their new roles on July 1.

Frederick County Public Schools will be operating on a four-day work week through July 26. All schools and the school division’s administrative offices will be open to the public from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and closed on Fridays.

New Principal Named for Apple Pie Ridge Elementary School

Megan Dodd has been named the new principal at Apple Pie Ridge Elementary School. She currently serves as the principal of the Early Learning Center at Funkstown in Washington County, Maryland, and will assume her role with FCPS on July 1.

Sherando Senior Receives William Andrew Mullins Courageous Achievement Award

Congratulations to Sherando High School senior Isaiah Taylor who received the William Andrew Mullins Courageous Achievement Award at the 2019 Allstate Foundation/VHSL Achievement Awards Program on May 20. Isaiah has overcome many challenges, including being homeless, while playing football and earning his diploma at Sherando.

New Inline Hockey Rink To Open This Summer

Schools Superintendent David Sovine and Washington Capitals Director of Community Relations Peter Robinson have signed an agreement that will result in a new inline hockey rink being installed outside James Wood Middle School. The rink is expected to open this summer.
