School Counseling

The data-driven comprehensive school counseling program at Frederick County Middle School will facilitate students' success in the three domains of academic, personal/social and career development. The counselor's role will be to facilitate a collaborative effort between home, school and community. The counseling program will be developmental in nature, while encompassing individual differences and abilities, with an ultimate goal of fostering responsible and productive citizens.

Counselors’ Corner

6th grade

Welcome to 6th Grade, scholars! I am Mr. MG, and I am delighted to welcome you to FCM! I am a recent graduate from George Mason University, receiving my Master's in Counseling and Development. I have two years of classroom experience in the middle school setting, and I absolutely love middle school. Fun Fact: I am an adjunct assistant professor and I teach psychology and developmental psychology courses at a small university in Oklahoma.

7th Grade

Hi, I am Steve Waters, the new seventh grade and lead school counselor at FCMS.  I am a graduate of The Virginia Military Institute, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree.  I worked in the public sector for several years.  Later, I returned to school and obtained my Master of Arts degree in counseling from West Virginia University.  Also, I am a passionate WVU basketball and football fan.  I come to FCMS from James Wood Middle School where I was the lead school counselor and school testing coordinator for several years.  If I can be of any assistance regarding our seventh graders, please do not hesitate to contact me.  I am so excited to be part of the FCMS team and looking forward to working with our scholars

8th grade

Hello all FCMS 8th graders & parents/guardians! My name is Ms. Egas and I am the 8th grade School Counselor! I will not be physically in the building at the start of this school year due to health reasons BUT I can still work with all parents/guardians & students.  There will be more information coming on how that will work. I have been a school counselor at FCMS for 13 years and worked in Virginia Beach as a school counselor for 8 years.  I love working with middle school students and can't wait to help everyone enjoy the 8th grade school year, as different as it may seem.  My office phone number is 540-888-4296 ext. 81220 (I'm only in the building on Wednesdays) and my email is:  Please feel free to contact me or email is possible at any time as we wade through these unsettled waters!

For Everyone

Seeing a therapist doesn't mean there's something "wrong with you." It means you may be:
  • Seeking clarity in some areas of your life
  • Wanting to work through complex emotions
  • Working through a traumatic experience
  • Challenging negative thinking patterns
  • Learning new techniques to cope with difficult situations
  • Focused on personal growth
Let's stop shaming those who seek to better themselves.
