School Counseling


The data-driven comprehensive school counseling program at Frederick County Middle School will facilitate students' success in the three domains of academic, personal/social and career development. The counselor's role will be to facilitate a collaborative effort between home, school and community. The counseling program will be developmental in nature, while encompassing individual differences and abilities, with an ultimate goal of fostering responsible and productive citizens.

Happy holidays and welcome to one of the busiest and most stressful times of the year. During busy times like the holiday season it is important to maintain routines. Along with the holidays comes colder and wintery weather that can also negatively impact routines. If your scholar will miss school due to illness or weather please be sure to send a note, email or call the school at 540-888-4296 concerning your scholar’s missed time.

The holidays can be a stressful time of the year for everyone.Here are some helpful tips to help reduce stress:
  • Acknowledge your feelings
  • Reach out to someone you trust
  • Be realistic the holidays don’t have to be perfect
  • Set aside differences
  • Stick to a budget
  • Plan ahead try to set up things on different days
  • Its okay to say NO
  • Keep with healthy habits
  • Take a breather or time-out

8th Grade News

James Wood High School is offering a workshop to assist parents of rising 9th graders understand the registration process for classes!  The workshop will be on Thursday, January 9, 2020, at 6:30 p.m. in the JWHS auditorium. In case of inclement weather, the program will be held on Thursday, January 16 at 6:30 pm.

FCMS 8th graders will be registering for 9th grade classes on January 29, 2020.
